Most of us lead busy lives with no time to cook. We have tight schedules, day and night meetings, and don't get the time to prepare an elaborate meal. It may be tough to cook all the three meals for the day. Some of them may appoint a cook and carry their lunch boxes. But is your meal balanced? Your lunch or dinner should contain five important food groups, cereals, pulses, fruit, vegetables and a milk product. This can include a combination of cereals like rice, wheat, ragi, rava; protein sources such as dal or pulse; or non-vegetarian foods, raw vegetables, or boiled vegetables; or curd to give you calcium and protein. Here are some easy combinations to make sure your meal is complete: • Vegetable peas fried rice with raitha • Chicken/egg fried rice with raitha • Carrot parata with rajma/peas/chole with vegetables + a bowl of curd • Bisibelebath with raitha • Ragi/rava dosa with peas and vegetable sabji with curds • Raitha with chapathi and sabzi Always make sure you include a fruit in some way or the other. It need not necessarily be immediately after lunch. You can have one at tea time. These are just a few ideas to tell you how you can balance your lunch box meal.
