Depression drains your energy, hope, and drive, making it difficult for you to feel better. There are many tricks to turn it around. Start small and build from there:
1. Get some exercise
Exercises can make a huge difference in your lifestyle, it helps to relax muscles, and reduce stress level by boosting your endorphin level. Try to do activity that you enjoy for 30 minutes a day, this will make you feel better and induce sound sleep.
2. Try relaxation techniques
Find a place that calms you and start working on yoga and meditation. Whenever any negative thought comes to your mind, try to focus on positive images of your life like laughter, love and hope. Deep breathing techniques will help you to feel calmer and stronger.
3. Eat a diet high in nutrients
Depression can affect the appetite. There is no specific diet that can cure depression. So, do not skip meals. Go for a well balanced diet that contains whole grains, nuts, olive oil, fish and good amount of fruits and vegetables regularly to keep you going. Cut down on foods like sugar, alcohol, fat, caffeine, and illicit drugs as these may worsen your condition.
4. Spend time with family and friends
Do not be alone; be in a place that comforts you. Socialize and be in a circle of friends and relatives who care for you and make you feel happy. You are also more likely to laugh which in turn will boost your mood.
5. Build self confidence
A lack of self-esteem is known to contribute to depression. Whenever you experience negative thoughts, jot these down in a book. Review it when you are in good mood and try to let go of your past. Make a pro active effort to gain confidence from any of the techniques as mentioned above.
