Ticking Time Bomb

Many people fail to realize that the way they manage or don't manage their time has an effect on their lives. An individual's self esteem, personal relationships, performance at work and health may be vulnerable to the side effects of poor time management.

There is a strong link between time management and stress because how you manage your time can either cause or alleviate stress. Here is a typical cause and effect sequence of how time management can be beneficial for your health. People who manage their time well, feel good about what they accomplish which in turn gives them a sense of self control- leading to positive feelings, further improving their confidence which eventually results in higher levels of motivation, energy and less stress.

Here are some tips to help you develop and improve your time management skills:

• Establish your priorities in life and maintain a list that includes family, health and career. Reviewing it on a regular basis can help to stay focused about the things you need to achieve in life thus increasing the likelihood of investing time into these priorities.
• Sub-divide your goals and conquer. Keep in mind that you don't have to achieve all your goals at once. Think about concrete and achievable goals.
• Delegate whenever possible. "Only do what you can do."
• Exercise regularly. Exercising gives you energy and helps you reduce stress and helps you focus.
• Eat healthy because nutrition is very important. This contributes to your energy levels and keeps you focussed. Don't forget to keep yourself well hydrated.
• Lastly, slow down and breathe because lack of oxygen will make you feel sluggish which can affect your performance. So, don't rush!

"Remember, whatever may be your chosen system, modify it to your needs because effective time management skills can significantly have a positive effect on your overall quality of life."
